Moonlight mass is the biggest social bicycle ride in Cape Town

Thank goodness Daniel Graham and Elad Kirshenbaum started a social experiment on twitter! They wanted to get people to ride their bikes around the mother city at full moon to raise awareness around using bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation! And how this has taken off!  I thought to check this out and took part on the full moon ride of the 2nd of August. Masses of people gathered in the fan walk section below the Green point traffic circle. People came dressed up, had donned their bikes with flashing lights and all sorts of fun paraphernalia. There was an incredible, almost electric vibe in the air and after a short wait we were off just after 21.15 pm. Never, have I ever seen so many people move (on bikes) in one direction.Needless to say, I doubt anyone broke a sweat it was that easy going. We cycled along the promenade, back around to the fan walk and then eventually through to town where we took over Long Street. The ride ends on Green Market square where crowds gather and restaurants stay open, some offering complimentary refreshments and snacks. The Route The Parking

The moonlight massrides take place each full moon evening and the next one will be on the 31st of August (which is a Friday! So be prepared for a fun filled night!) best to diarise this now and start getting your gear ready for part in this social experiment.

Despite the fact that this is a casual ride, you will still need to make sure you kit yourself out and adhere to the following:

1. Wear a helmet2. Use reflective gear3. Switch on the lights4.Obey all traffic laws
