Snoekies in Hout Bay - Fish and Chips with the locals

Snoekies Fish and Chips has become part of the Hout Bay Harbour 'furniture' if you will. It's easily one of the top ten places the locals will head to when needing to settle that mouth-watering, paper wrapped, fresh fish and chips craving.Snoekies was founded around 60 years ago and was brought to life by a German (yes, will repeat that part again: one ofthe most historical fish and chips cafes was established by a German. I do feel rather proud!).Sothis German converted a bus and made it into a cafe. Back in the day the cafe supplied snacks and hot coffee to fishermen while they waited to board their boats. The business has changed hands since - first sold to 'South African Sea Products' and then to entrepreneurs who have started a franchising venture. Today you will find the cafe at the far end of Hout Bay Harbour. You can't miss the cosmopolitan mix of people flocking around waiting for their order.
The fish is fresh and you have a choice of what you'd like to take away - this really is a 'local-is-lekker' experience. Personally, I grab my fish and chips and take a short drive to a pic-nic spot on Chapmans Peak drive. The view is magnificent and when the sun is out, the experience makes for amarvellouslyrelaxing afternoon of goodness!
