January in Cape Town is still a pretty festive month as things start to wind down after the Christmas season. A new year is all about doing new things and getting a fresh start so here are some of our top picks on what's happening Cape Town.

Cape Town Street Parade

Minstrels_paradeThis is one of the most historic events that take place in Cape Town. It has been taking place since the mid-nineteenth century where slaves were given one day off to celebrate. Since then the Cape Minstrels have been performing in a festive parade through the streets of Cape Town. It is all taking place on the 2ndfrom 12 noon starting from Rose street in the Bo Kaap and ending off at the Grand Parade.

157th LOrmarins Queens Plate

Horse_racingTaking place on the 5th and 6th of Jan, this is a glamorous event at which guests are asked to dress to impress in white or blue. Furthermore, it is held at Kenilworth Racecourse. Symphonic Shakespeare

OrchestraThe Cape Philharmonic Orchestra will be taking over the home of Shakespeare, the Maynardville Open-Air Theatre. Playing some of their best music this is definitely a night for your ears. Tickets start from R150.

Cinderella On Ice

Cinderella_on_iceNow here is something for your eyes to enjoy. Celebrating this classic tale in their own way. This beautiful show is taking place at the Artscape Theatre from the 10th of Jan. With tickets starting from only R90, be sure not to miss out.

Up the Creek Festival

Up_the_riverTaking place just outside of Cape Town on the Breede river is this unique music festival. Lay on your lilo and enjoy some amazing bands while getting a tan (don't forget the sunblock).
